Essential Tool Kit for the Home

Tools are precious.  They have value.  They pay for themselves.  You can do things with tools that you can’t accomplish without the proper tool.  There are few better investments in life.

Here’s a list of essential tools that every household should have.  You should get a tool kit for your home, and then think of giving them as very thoughtful gifts to your kids going to college, as a house warming gift, or even a wedding gift.  A gift that will keep on giving.

1 – 16 oz hammer with curved claw
1 – 25’ Stanley tape measure
1 – pencil
1 – utility knife with extra blades
1 – torpedo level, preferably with a magnetic base
1 – set of various screwdrivers, including a #2 Phillip and a flat headed one
1 – Jeweler’s screwdriver kit
1 – set of Allen wrenches
1 – set of pliers. Maybe Channel Locks, wire pliers with side cutter, needle nose, and Vice-Grips
1 – heavy duty pair of scissors
1 – small hardware kit of screws, plastic anchors, etc.
1- Three-in-One oil can
1 – a can of WD40
1 – roll of duct tape – can you imagine life without that?
1 – various tapes such as masking tape, blue painter’s tape, electrical tape and clear packing tape
1 – an electric meter. A simple one will do. Just be sure it works. Test it in a known live receptacle.

1 – set of chisels
1 – metal file with handle
1- putty knife about 1” to 1 1/2” wide
1 – electronic stud finder
1 – 24” level
1 – Little Giant ladder – unbelievable useful!
